The workshops in this series are designed to orient and train newly appointed team leaders, supervisors and managers to their roles and responsibilities. The Role of the Manager
This session sets the stage for the entire training program; What is supervision and management all about and, specifically, what is the role of the supervisor/manager in your organization.Employee Relations -- Legal Aspects and Best Practices
This session addresses the supervisor/manager's role as a leader and how that role interacts with employees. The session focuses on best practices of the organization and the legal issues facing supervisors/managers today. Emphasis is placed on discussions concerning cause and effect, legal guidelines, policies and procedures, performance management and best practices of the organization.Applicant Interviewing and Selection
Employee selection is a multi-faceted process: effective selection processes, interviewing techniques, and legal compliance. . . all in the name of finding the best match for the position. This session focuses on orientation and training initiatives above and beyond corporate provided resources. Considerations include aspects of company orientation, department orientation, formal training, on-the-job training, employee goals and objectives, and establishing performance objectives.Effective Communications
This session explores the variety of communication skills used daily with associates, peers, and superiors, as well as customers and business contacts. Identifying “Why Performance Appraisals Don’t Work” is the first step. Then, we’ll look at the techniques to overcome those hurdles and to make appraisals effective – by making them just one element of the bigger picture of performance management.Performance Coaching

From Peer to Supervisor: Making the Move

This workshop focuses on the unique challenges facing individuals who are “promoted from within.” The content will prepare new supervisors for a change of responsibilities and help the anxiety that can accompany it. Participants will learn the importance of clarifying their new role, how to clearly delineate the change in status, and ways to deal effectively with the impact of this transition on the work group.

Expanding Creative Thinking for Business Success

Communication Styles
Instructor: Helena Long
The course will focus on the four communication styles, with participants completing a self-assessment to identify your dominant style. You will learn the strengths and challenges of each style, and be able to diagnose the dominant styles of others. This course increases appreciation of the different styles, and creates an awareness of the motivational environment for each style. Also, you will learn how to identify and minimize potential conflicts with others due to style differences, and you will learn how to adapt your style to be most effective with the other styles.
