Strategic Planning
Facilitator: Helena Long
The strategic planning process recommended by the Ruth Consulting Group is based on the Balanced Scorecard approach and will result in a five-year plan for your company with defined strategies for year one. Also, the end product will include metrics of success for (1) effective communication of your strategy and (2) to establish a mechanism for tracking progress throughout the year.
The key elements of the planning process include:
- A company vision or defined future state that captures the hearts, minds, and imagination to act
- An environmental scan (technological, political, social, industry trends, and trends in the competitive environment)
- A performance audit (strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats—with alignment for action)
- Gap analysis
- Five-year objectives
- One-year strategies with metrics of success
- Implementation and deployment process (would rather have a strategy 80% right and 100% implemented than 100% right but not implemented)
- Communication plan
- Monitoring and tracking
The planning process is designed and tailored to best meet the needs of your company based on prior planning efforts, your company’s culture, and other business goals. The impact of this process is immediately visible as evidenced by enhanced alignment throughout the company, greater sense of team as employees and work groups recognize interdependencies, and improved efficiencies with a focus on priorities and eliminating duplication and redundancies.
